Changes: Sometimes Necessarily Hard by Paolo F. Tiberi
Being set in our ways can be stabilizing, but it can also be horrendously unsafe. How do we instill in young children the ability to change as needed, but to be firm until then? Personalities usually tend toward the two extremes: those who never make a decision and sway with every wind and those who make a decision and expect that decision to be uncontested for the rest of their lives. Is it important to be in the middle of those two extremes? Yes. If children can be shown the importance of standing for what they believe in and continuing firmly in the direction their decisions have brought them, then those children will be able to accomplish much in their lives. However, if children lack the ability to shift courses when the opportunity is better or more information presents itself and they should make a new decision, then they could be hindered and miss a lot of amazing opportunities for growth, wealth, and improvement. Now, is making a change - especially a big one - easy? Not usually. Is there anything parents or educators can do to help children understand that changes can be hard, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't follow through on them?
The story The King and The Thief (one of Paolo Tiberi's tales included in the Chronicles of King Argoz, Prince Ultan and Princess Maya) presents a story that may be of great help. It is a tale of a King who is unaware of what is really going on in his kingdom. He is unaware that the taxes that feed and clothes him so decadently cause his people great harm and discomfort. He is unaware that his merciless laws and punishments are carried out on those whom he has inadvertently forced to do wrong. King Argoz is unaware that by taking so much in the form of taxes from his people, he is forcing them into lifestyles of robbery and sickness.
Often, it's harder to realize change is needed than to actually go through with the change. The king grew up in the palace and was always the center of attention. All his needs were met and every whim was attended to. When a decision needed to be made, his "wise" advisors took care of it for him. It was as if selfishness was bred into the poor king, but soon he finds that his people are unhappy. They loath him and he finally notices. As the king walks the streets, where he is disguised as a commoner, he is hurt to hear how the people feel toward him, hurt to see that they are suffering so badly and then hurt again when he realizes that it is his regime that is causing it. It was a hard place the King came to.
"Tears stung the young King's eyes. This was something new to him. He could feel his skin prickling with angst. He didn't know what to do."
It was then he had to decide if he was going to change or not. The King makes a good decision at that moment when he brings the thief's poor family to his palace to bathe and eat. The king then realizes he can lower taxes and still survive, and he does so. He then changes his whole lifestyle and gives more time to his people and the kingdom begins to flourish again. Good comes from the King's hard but necessary change.
As far as teaching children how to identify and make hard changes, one suggestion is to read the story, discuss, and wait for opportunities to arise and make use of them as teaching moments. Parents and mentors shouldn't underestimate the teaching potential of being a good example, either. How do we as adult role models react when we discover a change is needed? Are we diligent to make sure we need to change and then do we willingly following through? Do we gripe and complain that things should just stay the same? Or are we showing all the young eyes around us that when change is necessary, even if it hard, it's worth the effort?

Resume Skills | Hobbies & Interests
Be honest. How many of you have one of the following in there?
Reading
Traveling
Music
Internet Browsing
If you do, you are only one of the 96% candidates out there.
Hobbies and Interests are something to talk about. It’s a window into your personality, that is beyond the standard work stuff. These are things you are supposed to be passionate about. You should be using this extensively to not just market yourself, but also to steer the direction the interview takes.
I will talk about how to manage the interview flow, but some other day. Today about your hobbies & interests.
Here are the rules:
Make them true. Have something you are passionate about. Something no one needs you to work upon, or do. Something that excites you, something that makes your eyes sparkle when you talk about it.
Make them Unique. As far as possible mention your hobby in a way that sounds unique. Use this as a lever for the interviewer to remember you. Don’t say reading, when you can say ‘classics’ or ‘Indian art history’ or something more specific. If it is music talk about genre, artist or just decade!
Make them demonstrable. You may like to think, but really that is not a hobby. If you put something like singing, be ready to sing in the interview. If you put something like dramatics, be ready to emote. Put something that can give the interviewers a little break from the monotony of taking interviews. If you say coin collection, carry a unique coin with you!
Make them relatable. Be honest at all times, but if you have more than one hobby, choose the one that the interviewers may be able to relate to. Yes, you read that right. This like all other parts of your resume needs to be customized according to the people you are sending it out to.
Get a life! If you don’t have a hobby or interest, get one! It’s not just something to talk about in a an interview, it is something to treasure and add value to yourself as an individual.
11 Easy Ways to Lose Weight in 2 Weeks
Looking for easy ways to lose weight and in 2 weeks? Below are 11 surefire ways you can do now to lose your weight now-
Easy Ways to Lose Weight in 2 Weeks
1. Beware scale obsession - weight should come off slowly - a half pound to one pound a week - as a result of cutting junk calories while fueling your body properly for the next workout and recovery. Think of your body as a high performance engine - raise the octane of the fuel you use and stop filling when the tank is full.
2. To lose weight in 2 weeks, you have to cut down on the junk foods (not completely), stop eating out and drink less sugary drinks, including the diet kinds.
3. Eat more fresh wholesome foods and whole grain products. It's simply the best and loaded with the essential fiber to keep you satisfied longer. The simple rule is, try to get in 2 serves of fruits and 5 serves of veggies a day.
4. Make it a point each day to include a good habit like drinking one less can of coke or eating one more serve of fruit.
5. Eat 6 healthy mini meals a day to keep your stomach satisfied. The key here is eat in controlled portions and never go for that second serve or a super size meal. Stick to the 1 plate rule to keep your calorie intake at bay.
6. Even 'bad foods' can be good, in 'moderation'. The keys are portion size and cooking method. Juicy, tender cuts of steak are fatty, but are fine to eat if you trim the lard before cooking, or grill it so excess fat can drip away. As for easy guideline on portions, always eat less steak than you would chicken.
7. No matter what you've eaten, take note of how your body feels after a meal, rather than how you think you should feel. If you're still hungry later in the day, treat yourself to a piece of sweet in season fruit rather than a sugar filled snack or dessert. Then go ahead and pat yourself on the back.
8. Food is not the enemy. Food powers your brain and your muscles; without it, you'll lose your energy soon. If you missed a midday meal, eat a piece of fresh fruit or a handful of whole wheat crackers before you head for the gym.
9. How many of us slip chips and chocolate into our trolley for emergencies? It's vital to stop buying junk if you want to stop eating junk! Be strong and avoid purchasing extra snacks. You'll notice that both your grocery bill and snacking habits will start decreasing. If the foods aren't there, you can't eat them!
10. Your favorite exercise - only better - daily walker? Seasoned swimmer? You get kudos for your commitment, but you maybe short changing yourself. As you become more accustomed to your favorite activity, you burn fewer calories. This doesn't mean you have to ditch your go to exercise - just mix it up. As your fitness improves, increase the intensity levels to challenge your body (but train with in your limits). Look at jogging 100 yards followed by another hundred yards of walking, rinse and repeat. It's a great way to jolt the body's metabolism.
Alternatively, look at a combination of interval training and strength training like Turbulence Training to get the maximum output from your body - And when combined with good nutrition, it is one of the easy ways to lose weight with.
Ladies, strength training is good for you too - you will not bulk up and with muscles, you will burn more calories.
11. Use your lunch break wisely - spend half your lunch break walking. Taking a midday walk or a run can boost your energy, and reduce stress. Best yet, it gives you more time after work with family or friends.
