Harnessing energy at gym

We all know energy can be neither be created nor be destroyed, but can be wasted ;)
Everyday in one form or another we are wasting energy.
These body-building centers are one such example. We are eating well and simply waste all the energy at the gym to chisel out our body! Why cant we harness energy from gym equipments?
We can light up the entire gym using the energy produced from there itself. We can use the principle of piezo electricity and of course magnetic induction for this purpose.
Similar is the case with shopping malls. The huge number of window shoppers can contribute in electricity generation.
I would like to in corporate these ideas into the existing equipments to harness otherwise wasted, but most wanted energy.
